Gas prices in Vancouver are on a roll, and not in the way drivers dread! For the fourth consecutive week, prices at the pump have been dropping, offering some much-needed relief to local wallets.
But here's the surprising twist: Vancouver's gas prices are falling faster than the national average. According to GasBuddy.com analysts, the city's average price dropped by 2.4 cents per litre in the last week, outpacing the national average's 2.1-cent decline. This is a welcome change for Vancouverites, who often face some of the highest gas prices in the country.
A year-over-year comparison reveals an even more impressive picture. GasBuddy notes that prices are 33.1 cents per litre lower than the same day last year and 21.8 cents per litre cheaper than just a month ago. That's a significant saving for regular commuters and road trip enthusiasts alike!
But why the sudden drop? Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis, provides some insight. He attributes the national price decline to increased oil production in the U.S., Canada, and OPEC+, coupled with high refinery output. These factors are keeping gas prices low, with some Alberta stations even dipping below $1 per litre. However, is this price relief here to stay, or is it a temporary respite?
As of Sunday, Vancouver's gas prices averaged 137.91 cents per litre, with Abbotsford at 124.49 cents per litre, and the provincial average at 135.2 cents per litre. And the good news continued into Monday, with some Vancouver stations offering prices as low as $1.30 per litre.
So, Vancouver drivers, enjoy the lower prices while they last, and perhaps consider exploring the beautiful British Columbia countryside in your fuel-efficient vehicles this holiday season!
