Sophie Devine has claimed the top spot on the Purple Cap leaderboard following her impressive four-wicket performance in a decisive match, marking a notable shift in the WPL 2026 standings.
As the excitement builds around the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026, significant updates concerning the coveted Orange Cap and Purple Cap have emerged, amplifying the competitive spirit among players. In a thrilling encounter held in Vadodara on Tuesday, the Gujarat Giants faced off against the Delhi Capitals, resulting in a dramatic twist in the rankings.
Despite Nandani Sharma of the Delhi Capitals delivering a commendable bowling performance, taking 1 wicket for 26 runs, she was unable to maintain her lead. Her team suffered a narrow three-run loss to the Gujarat Giants, allowing Sophie Devine, the standout allrounder for GG, to rise to the top. With an exceptional haul of 4 wickets for 37 runs, Devine has now amassed a total of 15 wickets, surpassing Nandani, who has 14 wickets to her name. This stellar performance not only secured her the Purple Cap but also earned her the Player-of-the-Match honor.
Impressively, this marks Devine's second outing in the WPL this season where she has taken three or more wickets. She has maintained a consistent record, never finishing a match without claiming at least one wicket. Nandani shares this record, having also secured a wicket in every match she has played, with her earlier remarkable performance of 5 wickets for 33 runs still standing as one of the two five-wicket hauls recorded this season—alongside Shreyanka Patil from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who has achieved the other.
Trailing behind Devine and Nandani are two talented players: Amelia Kerr from the Mumbai Indians and N Shree Charani from the Delhi Capitals, both of whom have taken 12 wickets. They are closely followed by the RCB duo of Lauren Bell and Nadine de Klerk, each with 11 wickets, and Patil, who rounds out the list with 10.
In the race for the Orange Cap, Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was last season’s winner, has surged ahead of the run-scorers after scoring the first century of the season. She achieved an outstanding 100 not out off just 57 balls against RCB, bringing her total runs to 319—the only player so far to surpass the 300-run mark. Sciver-Brunt is closely followed by her teammate Harmanpreet Kaur, who has accumulated 260 runs.
Other notable performers include Phoebe Litchfield from UP Warriorz with 243 runs, Smriti Mandhana from RCB with 236 runs, and Lizelle Lee from Delhi Capitals with 230 runs.
