MAAC 2026 Day 3 Recap: Records Fall, Fairfield Women Dominate Medley Relay (2026)

The MAAC Championships delivered an action-packed Day 3, leaving fans on the edge of their seats! Here's a recap of the thrilling events:

The Battle for MAAC Supremacy:

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, held from February 11th to 14th at Spire Academy, OH, witnessed some jaw-dropping performances. The defending champions, Niagara, faced fierce competition from the rising stars of Fairfield.

Women's Medley Relay Record Shattered:

The Fairfield women's team made a statement, obliterating the MAAC medley relay record. With a time of 3:40.35, they dethroned Niagara's previous record of 3:42.93. This victory showcased the team's depth, with standout performances by Sandsjoe, Bashor, and De Pree, who all won individual events earlier.

But here's where it gets controversial—Niagara refused to back down, pushing Fairfield to the limit. They also broke the old record with a time of 3:40.75, showcasing the talent of Natalie Killion and Alaina Pitton. Was it a fair fight, or did the officials miss something?

Freshman Phenoms and Veteran Victories:

Allie Bashor, a MAAC newcomer and grad student transfer, claimed the 100 fly title with a time of 55.17. Parker Koenig, after an impressive relay performance, secured his first individual MAAC win in the same event. The men's 400 IM saw Bobby Regan triumph for Fairfield, while Marty Divis dominated the women's event for Niagara.

In the 200 free, Fairfield's Natasha De Pree, a British sensation, defeated the defending champion, Natalie Killion, by a slim margin. Aidan Schnapf redeemed himself in the men's middle-distance event, while his classmate, Tone Sansjoe, broke her own MAAC record in the 100 breaststroke.

Diving Dominance and Backstroke Brilliance:

Ryleigh Mahoney, a freshman diver from Sacred Heart University, qualified for NCAAs with a score of 280.85 in the 3-meter event. In the 100 backstroke, Raegan O'Brien and Vilem Mikula claimed victory, with Mikula setting a new Niagara team record.

Team Standings:

After Day 3, the team standings took an exciting turn. Fairfield leads the men's division with 860.83 points, followed by Marist (792) and Niagara (767.33). In the women's category, Marist tops the leaderboard with 909.5 points, closely pursued by Fairfield (875.5) and Niagara (738).

And this is the part most people miss—with such tight competition, every point matters. Will Fairfield maintain their lead, or will Marist and Niagara make a comeback? The MAAC Championships are heating up, and the battle for glory continues!
