The incident in question involved Rieko Ioane, who knocked the ball on while completing a tackle, preventing Munster from potentially securing a dramatic late victory. This is not an isolated incident, as many matches have ended similarly, but Jackman believes it's an unsatisfactory way to conclude a contest, especially when the teams are separated by less than a converted try.
"It's an unsavoury way to end a game," Jackman said. "When the scores are so close, it feels like the game should be allowed to play out naturally, without such an abrupt ending."
Jackman's proposal suggests restarting the game with a scrum to the attacking team in such situations. He is part of a global alliance working with World Rugby to review the laws of the game, and this issue is high on his agenda.
"Fans deserve better than to have games end this way. We stop the game for other reasons, so why not in this case? It's an accidental knock-on, but it still affects the flow of the game and the mindset of the players."
Munster's loss to Leinster was their second of the campaign, and it was followed by a disappointing performance against Ulster, dropping them to sixth in the United Rugby Championship table.
Jackman's proposal aims to address this controversial aspect of the game, ensuring that matches are decided on the field of play rather than by an accidental knock-on.
